This article is intended for Pulse Coordinators, Stewards, Principals, and Teachers.
While the Wellbeing section is focused on individual students and is identifiable, the Experience section shows anonymised data at the cohort level.
In a check-in, students will answer five experience questions. These questions are taken from a bank of 120 questions for students 12+ years old and 80 questions for students 8-12 years old. The questions are organised into six wellbeing domains: Valued and Safe, Healthy, Material Basics, Learning, Participating and Positive Sense of Identity and Culture.
This is a valuable source of student voice. A good practice is to share some of the data with students and ask for feedback. Not only will you gain ideas but the students will get the message that you are taking their responses seriously.
The areas covered in below:
High Level - Overview
In the Overview section, learn how cohorts are tracking in the six wellbeing domains. Selecting any of the domains lets you drill down into the sub-domains.

How do schools use the Overview section?
The Overview section helps schools identify if there are any domains or subdomains that are worth looking into using the Experience heatmap. For wellbeing teams, this will highlight areas that may be suitable for running school-wide or group-specific interventions.
Deep Dive - Trend Blocks
The Trend Blocks section will show you the highlights, challenges and key questions from the Experience data for the time period selected (month, term, year).

How do schools use the Trend Blocks?
For wellbeing staff that may oversee a smaller group of students within the school, these trend blocks can be helpful for identifying a wellbeing area that they can focus on for the week and have a conversation with their students in the next wellbeing session. This is also helped by the Recommended Resources, which will show relevant resources for staff to use based on their students' experience responses.
Deep Dive - Heatmap
The heatmap shows how different cohorts of students are responding in each domain, sub-domain and question. This is shown as a number out of 10 (with responses closer to 10 being more positive) and colour coded from green (more positive) to red (more negative) responses.

How do schools use the Heatmap?
After looking at the Overview section at the top of the page, schools can better understand where they are doing well and which areas need addressing. Use the heatmap to get more granular insights into these questions to target specific interventions accordingly:
- Are there particular cohorts of students that are responding more negatively in certain areas?
- Are there particular questions that have more negative responses?
It’s also worth celebrating which areas are going well: Which areas are tracking positively?
High Level - Benchmarking
Benchmarking will show you how your cohort of students compares to other schools in your country or region for the timeframe you select: week, month, or year. This comparison will be for overall wellbeing indicated by responses to “How are you feeling today?” as well as across the six wellbeing domains.

How do schools use Benchmarking?
Schools find it helpful to know how they compare to other schools in their region: Are they tracking along similarly, or higher or lower?
